Tacoma, WA (May 12, 2021) – On Monday, May 10, an elderly man was hit and killed by a distracted driver while he was changing his tire on a Tacoma highway.
The deadly crash occurred on the shoulder of Interstate 5, near S. 38th Street. The 78-year-old man was changing a flat tire when he was struck. First responders were dispatched to the scene to provide aid to the injured parties.
The driver of the car was cited for vehicular manslaughter. She told authorities that she was on her cellphone at the time of impact. The identity of the deceased victim has not been revealed at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the fatal pedestrian crash is underway.
