I-5 Near Tacoma Will See More Construction Beginning This Summer

This trend will continue. Beginning this summer, I-5 near Tacoma will see even more road work as a new project that has been in the works for decades comes to fruition. Read on to learn more about it.

The Improvements on I-5 Near Tacoma

The project aims to build a new two-mile-long expressway from I-5 to SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma and is part of the State Route 167 Completion Project. In addition, the project hopes to achieve the following:

• Implement a shared-use path parallel to the highway for non-motorized travel between I-5 and SR 509 near Tacoma.
• Create a diverging diamond interchange over I-5 in Fife, connecting the new SR 167 to I-5.
• Restore roughly 150 acres of wetland, stream, and other natural lands in an effort to improve native fish runs and encourage the native wildlife to return to the region.
