Easton, WA (July 23, 2021) - There were multiple injuries in the aftermath of a two-car crash in the Easton area on Wednesday, July 21.
The accident occurred on Interstate 91, about two miles west of the city. According to initial reports, 78-year-old Peter C. Hammer was traveling westbound in a 2020 Subaru Forester at the time of the crash. Near the time of 12:28 p.m., Hammer tried to make a lane change, crashing into a black 2017 Dodge Ram 2500.
This caused the Ram to crash into a roadway barrier and overturned, finally coming to a stop in the westbound lanes of the highway. The Forester was able to come to a stop on the shoulder of the road.
Hammer was treated by responding paramedics, and charges may be pending. The driver of the pickup truck, 48-year-old Aaron R. Bernier of Issaquah, was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for the treatment of sustained injuries. His 14-year-old passenger was also hospitalized.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
Our thoughts are with Aaron R. Bernier, Peter C. Hammer, the injured juvenile, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
